My Maya Picture Gallery

I hope you enjoy browsing through this gallery of pictures all created using Maya 6.5 and 8.5

First attempt

This teddy was the result of my first attempt at using Maya 6.5.

Loco animation still 01

My first project after getting a manual to learn Maya was a locomotive.

Second Loco still

This was the result after tweaking the smoke a little

Loco 01

This render was done using Mental Ray and HDRI image based lighting to get a realistic look of a model

Loco 02

Another render in Mental Ray using HDRI image based lighting

Loco 03

Same again using different perspective

Clipper Lighter 01

My next project was to model a Clipper lighter and put a flame on it

Clipper Lighter 02

Next I modelled a quick ashtray to go with it

Clipper Lighter 03

This was rendered in Mental Ray to give a real life look and not using standard software render as the previous 2 pictures were

Clipper Lighter 04

Again rendered using Mental Ray and also HDRI image based lighting

Blue Ashtray

Next I modelled a blue glass ashtray and rendered it in Menatal Ray with HDRI imaged based lighting

Ashtray, Bowl and Lighter

Now I added a plain blue bowl and inserted my lighter as well

Blue Bowl 01

I then looked at giving my blue bowl a silver stand

Blue Bowl 02

A few tweaks with the shaders and use of HDRI image based lighting gave me this effect

Ashtray and Bowl

Now I have added my blue ashtray to my blue bowl on its silver stand

Bottles and Glasses

I then had an idea for doing some wine glasses and tumblers with wine bottles and rendered using Menatal Ray and HDRI image based lighting

The Kettle

This was another project in the book I followed and aslo used HDRI image based lighting in the rendering of it

Fench Windows 01

I found a tutorial for doing cloth curtains and used it to produce some french windows using a photograph of my garden in the background

French Windows 02

This is a still after animating the cloth to look like a draught blowing through

Jellyfish 01

This is a still from a tutorial I found online to make a jellyfish swim and used Maya's paint effects for the seaweed, bubbles, anemones and starfish in the scene

Jellyfish 02

Another still from the animation

Tropical Island 01

Next I tried some terrain modelling and incorporated water with use of the sea and palm trees using Maya paint effects again

Tropical Island 02

My final render of this scene which I was finally happy with

Screwdriver

A realistic looking screwdriver modelled from an online tutorial by BaRToNIX at Highend 3D

Raymarching

I followed an online tutorial for this so I could make rays through a window as in the next two pictures

Church 01

The first render of light through stained glass church window

Church 02

A second and very slightly different render of the same scene

Ladybird 01

A cartoon style of ladybird

Ladybird 02

A different perspective of the same scene

Ladybird 03

This is a still from a simple eye moving animation I did from the scene

Gemstones 01

I felt like trying to produce a diamond and some jewels

Gemstones 02

Then I modelled a ring to go with them

Marbles 01

I then tried modelling some glass marbles rendered using Mental Ray and HDRI image based lighting again

Marbles 02

Some more marbles done in the same way

Marbles 03

More marbles still rendered in the same way as the first two pictures

Marbles 04

This render has been done the same way but also using caustics in the calculation as well

Southend Tram 01

Being interested in trams I modelled an old Southend tram and animated it

Southend Tram 02

Another render as work had progressed

Southend Tram 03

This was the completed tram just before setting up the animation rendering

Volcano 01

The first still from a volcano animation

Volcano 02

The next still from the animation

Volcano 03

The final still of the volcano in full eruption

Ninepins 01

The first picture from a skittles animation done from an online tutorial by Aziz Khan at 3DM

Ninepins 02

The second still from the animation

Ninepins 03

The final still from the animation

Canalside 01

The following renders of the canalside were inspired by a picture called 'Autumn' by Eldar Cholich

Canalside 02

A different shader now on the water

Canalside 03

Some plants now added

Canalside 04

Slight change in the plants to reduce render times

Space Station 01

My next few projects went into the realms of space and this was the first - creating a space station around Jupiter

Space Station 02

A different perspective with an arriving shuttle

Holo Display 01

This still is from an animation created by following a tutorial at the Area.autodesk website called Light-up Hologram Display

Holo Display 02

A second still from the animation

Holo Display 03

A third and final still from the animation

Stardeck 01

Having followed the tutorial for the Holodisplay I then tried my own holographic animation and ended up with this

Stardeck 02

A second still from my holographic animation

Teddy Bear

With all my newly gained modelling and rendering experience I went back and tried modelling a teddy bear again with better results

Teddy Bears

This was my final scene of teddy bears which I feel quite pleased with

Mayan Temple 01

My next project idea was to model a Mayan temple based on a picture I found on the internet

Mayan Temple 02

This is a final render of how the scene ended up looking

Italian Garden 01

For some reason I got the urge to design a pond and fountain so I did it in an Italian style creating a background scene in Vue d'Esprit 4

Italian Garden 02

In this render I used a particle emitter to create water for the fountain

The Sunflowers

The real point of this scene was to get the sunflowers reflected in the mirror on the wall and to use the cloth tool in Maya to make a tabelcloth

Wallclock 01

Here I modelled a wallclock just about to strike tweleve which has been animated

Wallclock 02

I then changed it to six and added ticking sound and Westminster chimes to the animation

Wineglass 01

Here I followed a tutorial on how to use a shader for Maya call l_glass which produced a realistic looking glass of white wine when rendered using Mental Ray and HDRI image based lighting

Wineglasses 01

Next I added a second glass and used the shader to produce red wine. The rendering is done in exactly the same way

Wineglasses 02

A closer view and perspective of the glasses of wine

Chessboard 01

I saw a tutorial for modelling a chessboard in 3DS Max so thought I would do one in Maya

Chessboard 02

In these first two renders I have used a simple transparent blinn shader which does not really render looking like real glass which is the effect I wanted

Chessboard 03

Now I have used Maya's dialectric shader on the chess pieces and rendered using Mental Ray and HDRI image based lighting

Chessboard 04

A different perspective from the last render but still rendered in the same way

Take Shelter

An exercise in creating poygon arches ended in this simple shelter

The Folly

A progresion from 'The Shelter' using the basic archways and a background created in Vue de Sprit 4

Italianate Folly

A deviation from 'The Folly' again with a background created using Vue de Sprit 4

Pumpkinman

What innocently started out as an exercise in creating a pumpkin became this strange character

On Another World

My Sci-Fi side coming out now as I tried a bit of fantasy modelling

Ancient Egypt 01

This was inspired by having some Egypt textures that I wanted to try out using and This was the result

Ancient Egypt 02

A widescreen version of the previous picture

Castle By Day

A picture I saw of a castle in scotland inspired this creation

Castle By Night

I then experimented to get a night scene for which this is the result

It was at this point that I installed a copy of 3DS Max 9.  I am now in the

process of learning this similar but more powerful and sophisticated program from

the same company that produces The Maya program that I had been using.  To see
